Mr. Raymond “Ray” Fernandes, 86, of Attleboro, passed away on Sunday, September 18, 2022, surrounded by his loving and devoted family.
He was the son of the late Olive (Pimentel) and Dennis Fernandes, Sr. of Attleboro.
Ray leaves his wife and true love of 48 years, Winnie (Cameron) Fernandes.
In addition to his wife, Ray is survived by his children, Michael C. Fernandes and his wife Robin Tinkham of Attleboro; Reneé (Fernandes) Martin and her husband John W. Martin of Blackstone, MA and Domenic Fernandes and his wife, Tatyana Fernandes of Attleboro.
Ray also leaves his granddaughter, Amanda Rabau of Attleboro, who he so lovingly called “little one”; his grandson, John “Jack” R. Martin of Whitinsville, MA, and several cherished nieces and nephews.
Born in a little-known neighborhood called Lonicut in Attleboro on November 14, 1935, he is the last of his family to enter eternal rest. Ray was preceded in death by his brothers, Arthur Fernandes of Attleboro, Dennis “Danny” Fernandes, Jr. of Attleboro, and Gilbert “Gil” Fernandes of Attleboro.
Growing up, Ray could be found fishing, hunting, and enjoying time with friends and family. Spending free time in nature was where he was happiest, and then he met Winnie and Michael. He and Winnie created a loving family, where he found his truest happiness.
Ray enjoyed tinkering around in the backyard or his barn, working on different projects. He also loved playing cards with his wife and his mother-in-law or camping at Echo Lake Campground in Pascoag, RI, where he and his family were seasonal campers for over 30 years.
He worked in manufacturing all of his career. Before retiring from Ark-Les Corporation in Stoughton, MA, Ray worked at LeachGarner in Attleboro and as a Press Room Foreman at Augat in Attleboro. Ray was at one time a member of the Attleboro Elks and the Oakhill Beagle Club, where he would run his dogs and join in on game dinners.
Ray will forever be remembered for his infectious laugh, charming smile, unconditional love, and to some, the father they never had. A mentor, a hero, and a friend.
Relatives and close friends are invited to attend a memorial visitation from 1-4 pm on Saturday, October 1, 2022, at Duffy-Poule Funeral Home, 20 Peck Street, Attleboro.
At the conclusion of his service, the family would like to take a moment to speak and pay tribute to Ray, as a husband and a father .
