North Attleborough, Massachusetts
It is with deep sadness we announce the passing of Sonia (Cullen) Coleman. Born on December 15, 1926, in Methuen, Massachusetts, Sonia was a beacon of love, resilience, and generosity to all who had the privilege of knowing her. Sonia grew up in Pawtucket, RI. She and her beloved husband, Thomas, raised their family in Attleboro, Massachusetts, where she was a dedicated teacher until her retirement in 1991. Her love for teaching extended beyond the classroom, as she enjoyed instructing CCD and was a dedicated volunteer at the ESL program at The Literacy Center in Attleboro. In her free time, Sonia nurtured her passions for reading, playing cards, bowling, and swimming at the YMCA. She loved traveling and wintering in Florida, often taking cruises with family and friends. Sonia also found joy in her involvement with the Red Hat Society and The National Shrine of Our Lady of La Salette. Above all, her faith and family were her life's cornerstones, guiding her through a life well-lived.
Sonia is survived by her loving son Paul Coleman and wife Patricia of Woodstock Valley, CT; son Jules Coleman of Taunton, MA; her brother Gaston Cullen of Pawtucket, RI; her beloved grandchildren Matthew Coleman, Stratton DeWitt and Cader Coleman, as well as two great-grandchildren. Sonia's life was touched by loss, being predeceased by her husband Thomas, her sons Louis and Andre, her brothers Raynald, Bertrand, Andre, and Albert, and her sisters Yolande, Gabrielle, and Josette. Each of them held a special place in Sonia's heart, and their memories continue to live on in her loving family.
A memorial visitation for Sonia will be held on Thursday, April 24, 2025, from 4:00pm to 7:00pm in the Duffy-Poule Funeral and Cremation Services, located at 20 Peck Street, Attleboro, Massachusetts. A memorial Mass will be held on Friday April 25, 2025 at 10:00am in the St. John the Evangelist Church, 133 North Main St., Attleboro.
Interment will follow in St. John's Cemetery, Attleboro.
We warmly encourage those who knew Sonia to leave memories and upload photos to her memorial page as a celebration of her generous spirit and resilient life. “You do not need to know precisely what is happening, or exactly where it is all going. What you need is to recognize the possibilities and challenges offered by the present moment, and to embrace them with courage, faith and hope.” ― Thomas Merton
