Robert Douglas, 89, of Attleboro, MA, passed away at Sturdy Memorial Hospital. He was the beloved husband of Eunice (Wright) Douglas, with whom he had recently celebrated 60 wonderful years of marriage.
Born in Attleboro on March 8, 1937, he was the son of the late Manuel and Marion (Ingell) Douglas. A lifelong resident of Attleboro, Robert attended Attleboro Public Schools.
Robert proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps.
Following his military service, Robert dedicated more than 40 years to the Attleboro Fire Department, serving from 1959 until his retirement in 2000. In addition to his distinguished career as a firefighter, he was a longtime local business owner in Attleboro.
Above all, Robert was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather who cherished spending time with his family. Whether he was at “The Shop” with his sons or helping his daughter with projects around her home, Robert was always willing to lend a hand. He was a man who went out of his way for those he loved, never hesitating to offer his time, knowledge, or assistance whenever it was needed.
“The Shop” was more than just a place to work on projects; it was Robert’s favorite place to be outside of his home, where he enjoyed spending time with his sons and sharing countless memories. His generosity, strong work ethic, and unwavering devotion to his family will be fondly remembered by all who knew him.
In addition to his beloved wife, Eunice, he is survived by his three children, Robin Desmarais and her husband, Michael, of Seekonk, MA; Craig Douglas of Rehoboth, MA; and Keith Douglas and his wife, Colleen, of Seekonk, MA. He also leaves six cherished grandchildren, who brought him tremendous pride and joy.
He was the brother of the late Grover Carpenter and Richard Douglas.
Robert will be remembered for his many years of dedicated service to the Attleboro community, his willingness to help others, and, most importantly, the love and devotion he shared with his family. His memory will live on in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know and love him.
Private funeral services will be held.
