Robert John DesLauriers, 82, of North Attleboro, passed away on October 7, 2022 after a courageous battle with cancer.
He was born in his parent's fourth floor apartment in Salem, MA on December 25, 1939, but lived most of his life in Attleboro and the Attleboro area, and was a member of Attleboro High School's Class of 1957. He also lived parts of his life in North Carolina, Hawaii, and Florida. He was the son of Hormidas "Jack" DesLauriers of New Bedford and Flora Jutras of Attleboro.
On October 10, 1961, he met Beverly Briggs, literally the love of his life. They were married on April 20, 1963 in Mansfield, and remained devoted to each other and best friends for life. They went on to have two sons, four grandchildren, and two great-grandsons, one of whom was also born on Christmas
Growing up he had two part time jobs to help support his family, delivering newspapers for the Sun Chronicle and working at the Attleboro Bowladrome. At age 17, he enlisted in the Marine Corps, serving from 1957-1968, working as an aircraft mechanic specializing in helicopter maintenance. He took special pride working on and flying in Bell UH-1 Iroquois, more commonly known as Hueys.
In 1965, he was sent to fight in the Vietnam War and was stationed at Da Nang. He earned numerous medals of commendation, including three Good Conduct Medals and was a member of the Rifle and Pistol team, and he was classified as an expert marksman. He was honorably discharged as a Staff Sergeant, and took immense pride in being a Marine for the rest of his life. He would later work for two years at Texas Instruments, and then went on to be an Electrical Engineer for the Foxboro Company from 1971 until retiring in 2001, ending his career as a Supervisor.
He earned his GED with the Marine Corps in 1961 and would later attain an Associate's Degree in Business Administration from Stonehill College while attending night classes in the late 1970's.
Bob was an avid reader, and a strong believer in reading instruction manuals and measuring twice, cut once philosophies. He was self-taught in many areas. He thoroughly enjoyed camping, boating, fishing, hunting, SCUBA diving, Cape Cod, and taking trips with his family.
He is survived by his wife Beverly, of North Attleboro, his two sons, Wayne and his wife Brenda of Mansfield, and Mark and his wife, Narvy of Attleboro. He also leaves four grandchildren, Amber, Taylor, Ethan, and Aidan, and two great-grandchildren, Elliott and Henry.
