Michael J. Moran

–

Marblehead , Massachusetts

Michael J. Moran from Marblehead, Massachusetts, known to many as "Cowboy" from his high school days and "Mount Mike" during his tenure at Essex County Jail, passed away on December 16, 2023. Born on June 5, 1963, in Southbridge, MA, Michael was a compassionate soul with a dedicated spirit. Witty and talented, his powerful, larger-than-life presence was felt by all who knew him.

Michael was a proud and dedicated serviceman, both in his military service and his career. He served as a correctional officer at the Essex County Sheriff’s Department, where his dedication to his role and large stature earned him the affectionate nickname "Mount Mike." He later retired from Boston Harley-Davidson and Ocean View Country Club in 2018. While working at the Country Club, he displayed his talents as a chef and his love for cooking. An outstanding track and field athlete during his high school years at Attleboro High School, Michael carried his love for sport throughout his life. This was evident in his younger years where he could often be found in the gym powerlifting, which gradually transitioned into his passion for riding his Harley-Davidson. His motto was always, “Shut up, grab a helmet.”

Michael will be fondly remembered and sorely missed by his companion, Heather Granruth, his brothers, Tim Moran and his wife Kelly of Seekonk, MA, Shawn Moran and his wife Diane of Shippensburg, PA, and Donald Moran and his wife Jill of Whitman, MA. He leaves behind several nieces and nephews - Patrick, Andrew, Brenden, Meaghan, Riley, Jared, and Shannon. He was predeceased by his parents, Donald Moran Sr. and Joan Moran. Above all, what mattered most to Michael was his grandson, Nathan Moran, with whom he loved spending time.

Private graveside services with military honors will be held at the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne, MA.

Services are under the care of Duffy-Poule Funeral and Cremation Services, 20 Peck Street, Attleboro, MA.
