Attleboro, Massachusetts

ATTLEBORO - Mary A. (Russell) Stanton, 77, of Attleboro, departed this earth on Thursday, July 13, 2017.

Mary was born in Millinocket, ME on November 23rd, 1939 to the late Herman & Arline (Harriman) Russell. Married to the late Richard Stanton; she is survived by two sons; Patrick Stanton and his wife Sharon of Attleboro, Jeffrey Hayes and his wife Tina of South Hadley, two daughters; Rebecca Fernandes and her husband Joseph of Attleboro, Mindy Hanlin and her companion James Beresford of Plainville, her sister, Ina Pinette and her husband Norman of Mansfield, and two brother in law’s Edward Stanton and his wife Lynette of Attleboro and Jim Mitchell of Mansfield as well as many nieces and nephews.

Mary was the devoted “Nana” and “GG” to twelve grandchildren; Amanda, Samantha, Jennifer, Joshua, Brittany, Matthew, Andrew, Jordan, Erika, Jessica, Reilly, PJ; and nine great-grandchildren; Cora, Evan, Audrey, Austin, Brandon, Olivia, Savannah, Jaxon and Noah.
In 2015, Mary moved into her daughter Rebecca’s home, and once again was able to experience the joy of living in a home filled with children while she was lovingly cared for. Mary was an avid New England sports fan, and looked forward to watching her favorite teams score runs, touchdowns and winning hoop shots with her family and her favorite four legged companion “Megan.”

In her early life Mary worked as a loan officer before reaching her calling as a caregiver to the developmentally disabled, where she was lovingly referred to as “Nurse Mary” before retiring in 2005. Mary enjoyed spending time with her cherished children and grandchildren, attending family celebrations, or just a casual errand around town; she could also be spotted on the occasional night at a local casino or church bingo.

Known for her kindheartedness, and gentle ways, our mother, sister, nana, GG, and aunt will always be remembered for the life lessons she has instilled upon our family, for the private inside jokes, the singing of childhood songs, the adventurous car rides, and her will to just keep going no matter what life threw her way.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation from 2 – 5 p.m. on Sunday, July 16, 2017 in the Duffy-Poule Funeral Home, 20 Peck Street, Attleboro.
