Dr. Lionel D. Wyld, PhD.

CUMBERLAND, RI - Dr. Lionel D. Wyld PhD. of Cumberland, Rhode Island passed away on June 22, 2016 at the age of 91. He was married over 60 years to late Norma M. Wyld (Scherer).

Before retiring in 1994, he had worked over 20 years at Naval Underwater Systems Center. Previous to that, he was a professor of English History at various universities throughout the East including Notre Dame, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Cazenovia College and Bryant College. He was also President of the N.Y. State Folklore society and N.Y. Canal Society for a time.

He authored many books on The Erie Canal and New York history.

He is survived by his daughters Kimberley E. Wyld-Chirico of Attleboro, MA and Janet M. LaMorte of Streamwood, IL.; five grandchildren, Joseph Michael, Tyler and Morgan; Jason LaMorte, and Jamie LaMorte; six great grandchildren.

Lionel and his late wife, Norma Wyld will be laid to rest together at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne, Massachusetts this August.
