North Attleboro, Massachusetts
Leo Romeo Larocque, of North Attleboro, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully on December 20, 2024, just one day shy of his 16th birthday, at Boston Children’s Hospital, after a long & arduous battle with Ewing’s Sarcoma. Born on December 21, 2008, Leo was a cherished member of his community and an inspiration to all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Leo will forever and wholeheartedly be missed and honored by his parents, Leo G. Larocque and Heather E. Ripley of North Attleboro, Massachusetts, as well as his little brother Rylan Lyric Larocque, and by all who were fortunate enough to be part of his beautiful life or witness his remarkable spirit.
Leo’s life, though far too brief, left an indelible mark on the hearts of those around him. His determination, optimism, and resilience were matched only by his kind spirit and strength. To know Leo was to witness unwavering courage, and selflessness. His presence brought joy, laughter, inspiration, and warmth to everyone he encountered.
Leo shared a uniquely strong bond with his younger brother, Rylan. More than siblings, they were best friends and steadfast supporters of one another. Together, they created countless memories filled with unconditional love and endless laughter—moments that will be treasured forever.
A passionate athlete from a young age, Leo grew up playing football for the town of North Attleboro. Even after his first cancer diagnosis and the subsequent amputation of his left leg at age 9, Leo returned to the football field to play the sport he loved most. His fearless determination and tenacity in overcoming obstacles, served as a source of inspiration for all who knew him.
Leo’s affection extended beyond people to his two beloved dogs, Finley and Gunnar. They brought him immense happiness and reflected the gentle and caring nature that defined him.
In addition to his heartbroken parents and loving brother, Leo is survived by his maternal grandmother Karen Ripley of North Attleboro, his Aunt and Uncle Tayla Ripley and Ali Kruja Jr., as well as his beloved cousins Sienna, Ava, Ali, and Lowen of Attleboro. He also leaves behind his Aunt and Uncle Gretchen and Chris Smith of Johnston, RI., and his Aunt and Uncle Alicia and Adam Bentley of Coventry, RI. Leo is also survived by many friends, teachers, and a community full of dedicated supporters, that continue to share Leo’s story, spread his message, & keep his legacy alive.
Leo is predeceased by his paternal grandmother Patricia Charette (Grammy) of North Attleboro, and his maternal grandfather Walter ‘Skip’ Ripley (Papa) of North Attleboro. Leo has now been reunited with them, and many others in Heaven.
May Leo’s memory live on forever, and serve as a source of comfort and peace to those who mourn his passing and as a reminder of the profound impact he had during his short time with us on earth. Leo taught all around him to never give up, to never let anything get in their way, and to always fight. His only wish was to leave a positive and memorable mark on the world, and to change it for the better. Leo certainly did just that, as his life was a testament to his incredible wisdom, unwavering optimism, unmatched resilience, and his innate ability to always remain #LeoStrong.
The family of Leo Larocque will be taking the necessary time to process and grieve in private. They plan to host a celebration of life in the near future, as Leo would not want to be mourned, but rather celebrated. Once finalized, those details will be announced. In honor of Leo, we ask that all day every day, you try to be Leo Strong, and Live Like Leo.
