Attleboro, Massachusetts
Jeffrey “Jeff” Steven Leutert, 65, of Attleboro, Massachusetts, passed away suddenly and unexpectedly in Attleboro. He was born on May 8, 1961, in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, to the late Annelies G. (Springer) Leutert and Harry H. Leutert, both originally from Germany.
Jeff was the beloved husband of Gail Teresa (Ferr) Leutert, with whom he shared many wonderful years.
Jeff lived in Toronto during his early years and later made his home in North Carolina before settling in Attleboro, Massachusetts, in 2006. Wherever he lived, he built friendships and left an impression through his humor, generosity, curiosity, and willingness to lend a helping hand.
Jeff began his professional career in the life insurance industry at the age of 19. Over the course of his career, he worked for several respected companies, including Aetna, Paul Revere, North American Life, The Hartford, Transamerica, and John Hancock. He ultimately served as a General Director in Life Underwriting in Boston. Jeff took great pride in his profession and earned several professional designations, including FALU, FLMI, and FLHC.
Jeff had a deep appreciation for learning, fixing things, the outdoors, and serving others. In his younger years, he loved skiing moguls and even taught aerobics classes. He volunteered for approximately ten years with the Toronto Auxiliary Police, serving with the Toronto Police Service and attaining the rank of Staff Sergeant. He also served with the Marine Unit and became proficient in firearms training.
Those who knew Jeff will remember his willingness to help others. He happily offered his time and skills to friends, including building backyard fences. He loved boating, walking the dogs , and spending time outdoors. He especially enjoyed feeding birds, filling the birdhouse each day and watching them from his home office window. He also enjoyed feeding the squirrels in Capron Park during his dog walks.
Jeff cherished his time at the cottage in Combermere, Ontario, where he enjoyed the simple pleasures of cottage life and making memories with friends and family. He especially loved celebrating Canada Day at the cottage, including the tradition of setting off fireworks over the lake. As a lifelong sports fan, Jeff loved going to Toronto Argonauts football games. When he lived in the Boston area, he started cheering for the Boston Bruins—even though he was still holding out hope that his hometown Toronto Maple Leafs would win their first Stanley Cup since 1967.
In addition to his wife, Gail, Jeff is survived by his sister, Kim Leutert-Prud'homme of Low, Quebec, Canada. He was predeceased by his parents, Annelies and Harry Leutert.
Jeff will be remembered for his adventurous spirit, his love of animals and the outdoors, his dedication to his work and community, and most of all, for the many friendships and memories he created throughout his life.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Memorial Visitation on Sunday, September 27, 2026, from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Duffy-Poule Funeral & Cremation Services, 20 Peck Street, Attleboro, MA.
In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes donations to The Salvation Army, WWF (World Wildlife Foundation), St. Judes, Tunnel to Towers or the planting of small perennial plants in Jeff’s memory.
May Jeff’s memory live on in the people he helped, the friendships he treasured, and the many places he loved—from Toronto to Massachusetts and especially the cottage in Ontario. Family and friends are encouraged to share their memories of Jeff on his memorial page as a tribute to his life.
