Iris O'Brien

Iris B. (Street) O’Brien, aged 87, of Houston, TX, formerly of Attleboro, MA, passed away peacefully at home on April 14, 2021 surrounded by family after a short, but courageous battle with brain cancer. She is pre-deceased by her beloved husband of 56 years, Donald, her sister, Carol Pissinis, and her son-in-law, Patrick Gorman, Jr.

Born and raised in Attleboro, Iris was the loving daughter of Dolly (Doyle) Street and Austin Street (Tina Ide Street). Iris is survived by her four devoted children, Timothy O’Brien, Maureen Lavender (Wayne), Tracy Canaday, and Jane O’Brien (Sharon). Iris was the cherished grandmother of Mariah Bruno (Jonathan), Devin Gorman (Jessica), and Natalie and Molly Canaday. Iris is also survived by her brother George W. Street, cousins Rebecca King and Audrey Everton, seven nieces and nephews, and many lifelong friends near and far.

Iris was a 1951 graduate of Attleboro High School and taught in the Attleboro school system for 35 years before retiring in 2009.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend visitation on Sunday, April 25, 2021 from 2:00-5:00 PM at Duffy-Poule Funeral Home, 20 Peck Street, Attleboro.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, April 26, 2021 at 10 AM at St. John the Evangelist Church, 133 N. Main Street. Interment will follow at Newell Cemetery, Attleboro. Due to current Covid restrictions, there will be no collation following the burial.

In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital at www.stjude.org or to a charity of your choice.

The family would like to convey special thanks to all of Iris’ life-long friends who called and sent cards to lift her spirits during her illness.
