Gwendolyn M. Amadio Obituary (1929

Gwendolyn M. Amadio, 82, of Lindsey Street, Attleboro, a loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother and great-grandmother, passed May 20, 2011, in Sturdy Memorial Hospital. She was the beloved wife of Raymond C. Amadio. Born Gwendolyn Merrill in Attleboro on March 11, 1929, she was a daughter of the late Rodney A. and Beatrice G. Leavitt Merrill. Gwendolyn was a graduate of Attleboro High School, Class of 1947. She received her bachelor's of fine arts degree from the Massachusetts College of Art in Boston in 1952. She also studied in Paris at the Sorbonne and attended Boston University and Harvard University, studying in the theater arts program. Gwendolyn taught at the Jack and Jill Kindergarten in Attleboro and owned and operated her own calligraphy business for 13 years, and later continued doing freelance work. She worked at Augat Inc. in Attleboro as a programmer, retiring in 1991. She also established and operated Signature Crafts, where she designed and made crafts, selling through Beareheart Inc. in New Hampshire. In 1952, she worked as a set designer at the Brattle Theater in Cambridge and later designed and constructed sets for the Attleboro Jaycees and the Miss Attleboro Pageants of the 1960s. She directed musicals at Bishop Feehan High School for several years during the 1970s. Gwendolyn was also a former member of the Attleboro Arts Museum. In addition to her husband Raymond, Gwendolyn is survived by a son: Stephen M. Amadio of Attleboro; a daughter: Susan R. Parmentier of Hawaii; a sister: Nancy B. Sanborn of Hornell, N.Y.; four grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Charlotte V. Merrill. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the Duffy-Poule Funeral Home, 20 Peck St., Attleboro. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a memorial Mass on Friday, Sept. 23, 2011, at 10 a.m. in Saint John the Evangelist Church, 133 North Main St., Attleboro, celebrated by Rev. Richard Roy, pastor. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Gwendolyn's memory may be made to the Attleboro Arts Museum, 86 Park St., Attleboro, MA 02703.
