Gertrude Estremera

It is with heartfelt sorrow yet profound gratitude for a life well-lived that we announce the passing of Gertrude Estremera, affectionately known as Kitty, on July 5, 2023. Born on November 17, 1937, in Yabucoa, Puerto Rico, Gertrude was a warm, supportive beacon of love and strength to her family and community. Her vibrant spirit and genuine love for life left an indelible mark on everyone she met. Gertrude was a retired machine operator in the mechanical parts industry, a job she performed with diligence and commitment. However, her true passion lay in the joyous times spent flea market shopping, playing bingo and blackjack, and most importantly, cherishing memorable moments with her grandchildren – they were the world to her.

Gertrude’s love story with her devoted husband, Jose Estremera, was one for the ages. Their bond, filled with laughter, understanding, and mutual respect, was an inspiration to all who knew them. Gertrude is also survived by her cherished children, Elizabeth Piva, Jose Estremera, Maria V. Maslen, Rose McCracken, and Antonio Estremera. She was the proud and loving grandmother of 13 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Gertrude was preceded in death by her loving parents, Jesus and Isabel Ortiz and her daughter, Margarita Estremera. Her memory will live on in the hearts of those who loved her and those whose lives she touched with her kindness and grace.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation from 1-3 p.m. on Sunday, July 9, 2023, at the Duffy-Poule Funeral Home, 20 Peck Street, Attleboro.

A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Monday, July 10, 2023, at 10 a.m. at St. John the Evangelist Church, 133 North Main Street, Attleboro, immediately followed by a burial in St. John’s Cemetery, West Street, Attleboro.
