Mr. David M. Stringham Obituary (1960

David M. Stringham, 56, of Attleboro, passed away on Thursday, March 16, 2017, surrounded by his wife of 32 years, Charlene, his daughter, Rebecca, and son-in-law, Matthew. David was born on May 10, 1960 and was raised in Attleboro by his mother, Marguerite “Peg” (Pinheiro) of Taunton, a graduate of Sturdy Nursing School and lifelong nurse at Sturdy Memorial Hospital, and his father, Kenneth Stringham, of New York, a decorated WWII veteran. David was a graduate of Saint John the Evangelist School and Bishop Feehan High School (Class of ’78). David went on to graduate with Highest Distinction from UMass Dartmouth (formerly Southeastern Massachusetts University) in 1982 with a degree of Bachelor of Science in Accounting and earned his Masters’ Degree in Computer Science in 1989, summa cum laude, also from UMass Dartmouth. In November, 1990, he sat for the Rhode Island CPA exam and received the second highest grade given on that year’s exam, despite never having practiced in accounting. Before retiring in 1991, he was a project engineer and consultant for Aquidneck Data Co., in Newport, RI, a company that contracted to Raytheon Middletown and the US government’s Naval Underwater Systems in Newport. He was an avid numismatist and a life member of the American Numismatic Association. At Taunton 10 Pin, North Bowl Lanes and Middletown Lanes, David was a scratch bowler and competed regularly in tournaments throughout RI and MA. Later, he swam nearly every morning at the Attleboro YMCA to stay fit, enjoyed all things sci-fi (especially Star Trek), and, like any good New England boy, enjoyed the Sox, the Bruins, and, of course, the Patriots! One of the highlights of his life this spring was going to watch the Patriot’s Duck Parade in Boston with his daughter and granddaughter at his side. David devoted much of his time helping others whenever he could – especially our veterans, servicemen and women, and children. He was an active member of the Attleboro Lodge of Elks #1014 for the last 34 years. He was an Honorary Life Member, Past Exalted Ruler, an ENF Loyalty member, Past State Trustee, Past State Officer of the Year, Past Mass State Scholarship Fundraising Committee Chairman, Founder of the Attleboro Lodge Annual Children’s Christmas Party, Lodge and District ENF Chairman, Lodge DARE Chairman, State DARE Co-chairman, a member of the Lodge Bingo Committee, and was the former editor of the Lodge Bulletin, to name just a few of the things he did to benefit Elkdom. In addition to his wife, Charlene, and daughter, Rebecca, David is remembered by his grandchildren, Mykaela and Joseph, his son-in-law Matthew, and his siblings: his sister Debra and her husband James O’Connell of VA, his brother Kenneth and wife Brenda of Attleboro, and his brother Paul and wife Jean, also of Attleboro, as well as many nieces and nephews. Friends and Family are invited to attend visiting hours on Tuesday, March 21, from 4-8 p.m., at Duffy- Poule Funeral Home, 20 Peck St., Attleboro. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, March 22 at St. John the Evangelist Church, 133 North Main Street, Attleboro. Burial will private. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Massachusetts Elks Scholarship Fund or the Elks National Foundation would be appreciated.
