David Knight

It is always difficult saying goodbye to someone we love and cherish. David “Papa” Knight passed away peacefully on January 1, 2023.

Papa was born on April 25, 1945 and previously spent 44 years at Munson Development Center prior to becoming part of the Amego family in June of 1996. David was loved dearly by his day program and residential staff including Fatou, Ray, Lee, Isaac, Sam, Denise, Rene, Domenic, Elijah, Ibrahima, Seny, Tina, Anna, Sophie, Willis and many others. Papa loved dressing dapper, he was stylish and looked like a hip hop rock star! He loved fun hats, foot massages, singing and dancing, good food and being around people. He was a smart man with a great smile and a strong will to live a life full of smiles. Many staff wrote words acknowledging what a remarkable and lovable person David was, one stated “David Knight was one of the most memorable clients I have ever had the privilege to care for. If you work with a person or group of people long enough you come to think of them as extended family, not merely “clients”, a term best left to the legal profession and not human services.

Those of us who worked closely with David had a familial relationship with him. David was quite the character. He tested us from the day he came to Amego, our patience and endurance, but always with a mischievous grin and a good-naturedness expressed by his gentle demeanor. He used to hum songs such as the “Star-Spangled Banner” and “Home On The Range” and produce endearing vocalizations that were uniquely his. His charming laugh and his sweet smile will be missed by all of us who loved and cared for him. He will always have a place in our hearts. David is at home now and resting in the arms of a Loving God.”

A memorial service will be held at 1 pm on Friday, January 13th, 2023 at the Duffy-Poule Funeral Home, 20 Peck Street, Attleboro.
