Arthur Roy

–

Attleboro, Massachusetts

Arthur J. (Butch) Roy, 85 of Attleboro, MA, passed from this world peacefully, surrounded by his family on November 22, 2022 at Alliance Health at Maples, Wrentham, MA.

Born July 30, 1937, he was the son of the late Evelyn T. (Monroe) Carr and the late Arthur M. Roy. He grew up in North Attleboro and was educated in the North Attleboro school systems.

Arthur is survived by his wife Sandy (Heath) Roy of 34 years; his siblings Anna Coy of KY and Cindy Elderkin of VT; his children Pam Brown of RI, Arthur A. Roy of VT, Chris Hentschel of ME, Chuck Lury of VT and Donna Tapscott of FL. Arthur was the proud grandfather to 12 grandchildren – Joe Roy, Michael, Mark, Caitlin, Mikayla Hentschel, Aliza (Hentschel) Ballard, Sebastion, Tela and Tabitha Lury, Katrina (Lury) Webber, Norman and Michael Phinney; as well as 8 beautiful great grandchildren – Ethan, Isabel and Abigail Roy, Woodrow Ballard, Levi, Holden, Cameron and Maxwell Hentschel. He also leaves behind many nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was predeceased by his daughter Sharon Rzemien, his son Brian Roy also, by his sister Shirley Weir of Mansfield, MA.

Employed most of his life in the carpentry industry, Arthur was an incredible, very much self-taught, carpentry craftsman. He loved all the details of fine carpentry. A jack-of-all-trades, he restored a wonderful, old, much-neglected farmhouse in Corinth, VT from foundation to roof with and for his family. Many family memories were made at that old Homestead…Arthur’s labor of love. There was nothing he could not restore, build or improve. Always there to lend a hand or hammer. Later in years he became the Maintenance Manager at Hope Gardens Elderly Housing in Attleboro, MA until retirement in 2007 after which time he still remained active as a Handyman for many years.

He loved to spend time with his family and friends, enjoyed sitting near the ocean to relax or just a ride to “nowhere”. He loved being up North – Vermont and Maine. Spent much time in the rivers up North gold panning, which was a favorite hobby and pastime for many years. He loved the outdoors, hunting, metal detecting, camping, fishing…if he was outdoors, he was in his element. He enjoyed the hobby of coin collecting…he’d spend hours researching and educating himself.

The family is planning a private time of remembrance at a later date in his much beloved Vermont.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you hug your loved ones a little closer tonight and let them know how much you love them.
